New Home for MIX Welding Workshops

The MIX and the School of Visual Arts has had a long relationship that has spanned piloting the new MIX Badging within SOA for-credit courses, SOA faculty and staff serving on the MIX Advisory Committee, SOA faculty research projects implemented in the MIX, SOA student projects created in the MIX, custom MIX workshops offered for SOA courses, SOA courses taught in the MIX, and more.

Welding was one request by stakeholders for an the MIX mission and scope during the planning phase for the Horizon Hall Building, however, due to some constraints the space hasn’t worked to offer training or activity in its’ walls. After a few conversations faculty and staff within the SOA Sculpture area, new Sculpture Assistant Professor, Brian Davis, offered to provide MIX students access for workshops and to implement projects during his open hours shift.

While we were able to offer one workshop this Fall 2025, we worked out the kinks and details to offer something more regularly in the Spring 2026 semester, so check on Mason360 and sign up for workshops there.
