Sewing and Textiles
The MIX Sewing and Textiles Station is located in the main Makerspace. Within this station exists smaller individual tables for embroidery, vinyl cutting, heat press, sublimation printing, and ironing. The sewing and textiles cabinets contains tools and scrap fabric for user.

GMU’s annual Halloween Costume Competition introduced a new grading category for craftsmanship, in 2024, to consider handmade costumes. The overall winner Aniya Coffey, as seen in the image below, made her Queen of Hearts costume at the MIX.
Getting Started with Sewing:
The basic requirements to use the sewing machines, embroidery machines, or the vinyl cutter and heat press is to take the appropriate workshop

The MIX has 8 sewing machines, capable of basic stitches and making stuff

(2) Brother CS900 Automated Embroidery machines are available for use at the MIX. The necessary software is Inkscape and the plug-in called Inkstitch. Both are available for free online.

The MIX provides basic necessities, such as thread, needles, scissors, pins, etc. The MIX will also provide all materials necessary to participate in the orientation and training workshops. After completing the workshops, users will need to provide their own materials for projects.
